Types of UPVC Door Handles

When your upvc door handle is in need of replacement, it's important to find the right replacement for your home. A locksmith can offer and install high-security uPVC door handles that come with additional security features.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a rigid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever it will tend to rotate the fulcrum to the direction of the force applied. However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you exert by changing a small amount of effort applied over a long distance into a greater amount of force applied over a shorter distance. This is what enables you to do more work in less time, which is why levers are often used to lift heavy objects or moving large quantities of cargo. The principle of the lever is also employed in everyday tools such as crowbars. hammer claws, fishing rods and your own legs when you are standing on your car's hand brake.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. These are available in various finishes and designs and can be used on a variety of materials, including UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold as a pair for the inner and outer door with spindles & screws included. They are also available in both handed and unhanded versions for different users.

These are often used for new constructions and can be used to replace the existing doors made of upvc. The levers are lowered to open all multipoint locks, and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They are more secure compared to traditional lever door handles as the locking operation is only accessible by entering the door with keys unless the door is locked.

They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are a cost-effective alternative for a home with more security. The only downside is that they do not provide the same level of security as a cylinder lock and they don't restrict access to the home if the door is left open.

Typically, these will be designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock, or the replacement version called a Paddock lock. Lever/Snib

Lever latches, the simplest of all door handles, are used. The lever is pushed downwards to open a latch inside the door that can be locked with a key. Certain lever privacy handles operate on the same principle but with a second knob, similar to the doorknob.

A snib can be a very useful tool, particularly in homes where security and privacy are crucial. You can use the snib feature to block your guest from entering until they are ready. This type of handle can also be used for doors in the interior, like those in bedrooms where you wish to limit access from outside.

Snib buttons can cause issues in some cases, especially when you have old locks and doors that are warped. If the snib switch is accidentally pressed or by someone who isn't familiar with it, your door may slam and lock you out. In most cases, you can gain entry by knocking on the door's frame or the letterbox, but this isn't ideal.

These smart locks can be retrofitted to double glazed door handles-turn pull handle kits. They are available with coverplates that hide holes that are already present to ensure a seamless installation. The E-LOK makes use of a smart application to allow you to open the patio door handle using mechanical keys or RFID cards and can be configured with passcodes to ensure security and convenience. The system has been tested for 200,000 cycles in order to ensure its durability. The handles are made of solid metal and comply with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.

Lever/Moveable Pad

This popular handle style is used for front doors. It has the advantage of preventing the door from being opened without an outside key when the lock hasn't been deadlocked. This is achieved by using a 'pad-shaped' external handle that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.

This handle is designed to work with uPVC multipoint locks which use a split spindle mechanism. This type of operation requires that the internal lever handle and external pad handle be attached to the same lock case. This could be a straightforward modification to the existing uPVC handles, but it might also require changing the lock case or even a new set of handles to accommodate this added functionality.

These aluminum levers and movable pads door handles are suitable for use on uPVC and come with a maintenance-free slide bearing. They also include fixing lugs, spring cassettes, and a non-stick slide bearing. These handles feature a cut-out for a euro-profile, and can be installed on many uPVC or timber doors.

The lever-movable pad is available in many designs to fit a broad variety of multipoint locks. They are designed to work with split spindle multipoint locks with a 92mm cylinder and require a separate split spindle set, as supplied by the lock manufacturer.

The lever/lever handle is among the most well-known types of upvc door handles and is available in a range of styles. It is made up of a fixed or movable pad that can be used to control the lock.
