How to Replace an audi Keyless go G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are audi key fob not working in sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or Key For Audi (Zzb.Bz) G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions however the best way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. If you're having issues with this component, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car can start when the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is connected, but still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c even when i unplug it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, as i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and requires audi replacement key cost uk. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous issues with your vehicle. It's an essential component of your audi a3 keys's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is spinning. If this sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost and also timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common feature across the audi a3 key fob replacement 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.Subaru-logo.png
